Getting Started Is 80% of Getting the Work Done

Are you still thinking of what you have to do? Fantasizing? Wishing that you will wake up one day and find not only that the work is done, but that you did it without any effort and you are able to take pride in it? This is what a dream assassin looks like. Without action dreams fade away into the memory land, but not before impacting our self-esteem and joy of living.

If you spend most of your time ‘planning’ and ‘researching’ without getting your hands dirty, know that these are all excuses. Roll up your sleeves, follow leads, fail, get back on track. Succeed. You’re 20% left to succeed.

Decisions That Make Us Proud

We all know the self-defensive attitude of protecting what we perceive as ours. This attitude teaches us unconsciously to repress empathy and see the other person as a threat. Whether we’re talking cake, time off or doing tiny unethical mistakes, we often get to keep what we fought for at the cost of our self-esteem.

Each decision that doesn’t reflect the best choice we are capable of doing takes away from the quality of our being and shapes our character into something that we don’t feel proud about. Think of all the anger and the negative emotions you surf on, assuming that that’s life. That isn’t life. Is a personal choice of underperforming in life. Make the right choice at any cost and you’ll at least be able to keep your chin up.

Keeping Ourselves to a Higher Standard

It’s okay slagging off, falling behind, not putting in 100% effort is what every person unhappy with their performance says to themselves. But is it really? Somewhere in the world there is another person chasing your dream. If you don’t go after it, someone else will. If you don’t commit to change yourself, change your life into the vision you have for yourself, someone else will. And the harsh reality is that you won’t even be noticed or missed.

Think Act Succeed – Think Act Succeed

The planning stage is when self-doubt can sabotage any chance to act and succeed. Our mind can obsess over the possibility of failure rather than the possibility of success, making us paralyzed with fear. It is a cheap trick that keeps us trapped into our mediocrity and our comfort zone. As much as we need stability, we need growth. And growth cannot happen just by thinking about it, but it does start with the thinking mind.

For many of us, taking action is not a button that we switch on and enjoy its unlimited stream of growth. It’s the decision we make every single morning to push through, regardless of the circumstances, and give our best to materialize the idea. Thinking and acting always generate success due to the steep learning curve that cannot be replicated through passive learning. If you’re at a thinking stage and have been there for a while, start with the smallest action. Not the most grandiose action, but the one that can set a strong foundation for your project. How do you start? By doing something.

Slipping Off – Who’s at a Loss?

The cheat mentality is responsible for many of our downfalls and the most negative impact attracted by this poor choice is felt by the person making the choice. Let’s unpack.

Cheating on your homework or an exam? Free gratification that teaches us we must be applauded when we’re not putting in the effort.

Cheating on someone romantically? Impacts the self-esteem, attracts guilt and destroys relationships that could have had a more peaceful fallout.

Cheating the law? The fear of being caught and the guilt can bring misery.

Going back to bed in the morning? Well, time slept is time not lived. Time slept when our body and mind had enough sleep is an insult to our being. We deliberately choose to put ourselves on hold, to cross off time from our life. Time we will never get back.

Slipping off is failure as long as we keep on slipping and do nothing to adjust our course. But slipping off also teaches us how to navigate through life and to maintain balance when we are likely to slip off. What are you going to do differently?

Living Intentionally

Accidents happen all the time, but what if we choose to live our life in accident mode? We wake up dreading the day ahead of us and looking forward for the escape of sleep, just to realize that the lack of awareness while sleeping makes those intensely sought for moments insignificant. And we carry on looking for some real experiences when our most cherished present is the present moment.

The routines we build and do mindfully or mindlessly create the map for our life. It doesn’t take a fortune teller to anticipate what our life will be 10 years from now. Our life unfolds the way we see it in our mind and what we see in our mind is reflected through how we live our life. It can take extraordinary effort to love ourselves and start developing positive self-talk and beliefs of achievement that will help us overcome our condition.

Leaving our life to chance is a losing bet. It allows producers, employers, family and friends to feed off our backs, of our energy. Let’s use our creative energy to become our highest version of ourselves and go full speed in changing what we see and what we do to improve the world around us.
