Have you ever fantasized over someone who comes and recognizes your value and lifts above the crowd? That’s pretty much the typical hero – victim deadly duo. Being a hero means seeing people as needy, while being a victim implies waiting on someone else to take action for you. Self-belief has nothing to do with other people. It’s not about waiting around to save or be saved. It’s about being your best self, which is what any negative self-talk makes it impossible to achieve.

Make a Start
We’ve all heard the saying you got to start somewhere, to which I would add starting is better than overthinking where you start. Time spent not taking action is time wasted which might not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but you’ll probably look back at the hesitation laughing at yourself. Nothing is permanent. You can only improve once you have something to work with.
Embracing Who You Are
You want to get ahead. We all do. You are doing more than most people though, you are taking action. That’s great! Envisioning where you want to be plays a huge part of getting there. But take a good look at yourself and accept and embrace who you are in this very moment. Accepting and loving who you are in the now will allow you to build yourself up.
You only have control over your own actions, so why waste time and energy over things that can only impact them of you allow them to? Radically accept everyone around you. Accept their decisions, their stories, their views. Accepting is more helpful than fighting forces and attracting consequences. Acceptance allows you to go through life by focusing on what you can do better, and it all starts with accepting who you are now.
When What’s Right by Others Isn’t Right for You
We all have experienced at least one moment in life when our decision was overridden and there was nothing we could do about it. If this happened at a young age, we learnt to put up less resistance going forward up to a point when even being proper adults doesn’t change our approach towards how we treat life, decisions and things coming our way. We sometimes forget that other people made decisions that weren’t in our best interest. It was comfortable for them not to have to deal with the prospects of success or failure. Not having to bother. But nothing happens unless we take responsibility and do what’s right for us.
Time to Reflect
Is growth all about taking action? It involves planning – sure. But we often tick boxes without giving ourselves time to take it in. Without looking back at what we did, even if it went well, and consciously analyzing our actions. That is a great point when criticism is useful. So today, if you have 5 minutes – give yourself time to reflect. You might experience more growth in moments than you did for a while.
