Back Against the Wall

We all have at least one superpower: our survival instincts. But by living in a comfortable environment, where we have emotional and financial safety, we risk living the average life without giving ourselves credit that we are capable of doing more.

This might not work for everyone, but I’ve decided to turn on my personal countdown and give myself until 17 September 2021 to complete some of the projects that I’ve been working on. To increase the stakes, I will share my journey with you here and on my new YouTube channel called The Andreea Project, where I actually need to show face and I will be accountable by the whole internet.

Join me in my journey to creating new healthy habits. My first challenge is to wake-up at 4AM everyday, do a work-out, meditate and write a blog and have it publish by 5.30AM UK time! You can follow my progress on YouTube by clicking the button below. Thank you so much for your support!

Life at a Glance: the Positive Future

In times of austerity we cannot postpone change and choosing what’s right. What’s easy is no longer an option and giving into anger and despair is guaranteed failure.

So what can we do when we can’t change the decisions that led us here?

  1. Take a look at your environment. Tidy up the space for a clear mind.
  2. What is your ‘must’ through this challenging period? Financially, socially (the need to connect with people) and personally (self-growth).
  3. Where do you want to go?

Envisioning a bright future when the world seems to be on verge of collapsing might not be the most sensitive thing to do, but it certainly is the healthiest. We attract what we say and what we think and despite all the chaos, there is still room for our individual narrative.

Spinning Guilt from Weakness to Advantage

Guilt can prevent us from making decisions that we’re not confident with 100%. Unlike doubt, if used ahead of making a decision, it can be a great tool to anticipate the internal changes that making a choice would bring.

Rather than waiting for retrospective guilt to kick in, let’s do a visualization exercise of what awaits for us on the other side of making a decision. Is it a life of joy or a life of struggle? Is it financial comfort but emotional torture? Is it financial comfort and emotional wellbeing?

We can work towards achieving everything we want in life. Yes, it’s true that everything comes at a cost, but living a full life takes time and effort. Guilt doesn’t have to be our companion. We can welcome it in and acknowledge the early signs of being off course. Let’s try and understand the signs – are they our parents’ bias, cultural limitations or is it truly us, moving away from who we want to become?

Why Are Vision Boards Better than Family Photos?

Vision boards remind us about where we are going in life so we don’t get lost in opportunities, self-talk, peer pressure or whatever it is that life throws at us. Having a vision board makes daily choices easier. For instance in order to achieve great health and maintain it certain habits don’t align with the vision of life, while others – such as healthy eating, exercise, mindfulness and meditation – do.

What is a vision board?

A vision board reflects your goals and aspirations in all areas of life or specific areas, if you feel like you want to have a certain focus. The goals can be reflected in words or imagery: a photo of a crowd that tells you one day you’ll be there to share your ideas with them, a personality or an object – it can be anything that has meaning for you.

Simply put, a vision board is a tool that reminds you about your long-term goals and it’s a great trigger for visualizing yourself being that what you want. Also, there’s no reason why you can’t have some family photos there if that’s what drives you.

As our brain can’t perceive the different between immediate reality, memories and imagination, visualizing ourselves where we want to be sets the right attitude towards achieving it.

What areas can I cover in my vision board?

You can cover any or all of the following:

  • Finances
  • Career progression
  • Relationships
  • Love life
  • Health
  • Lifestyle
  • Charity

It won’t be Harry Potter magic – you won’t look at a number on the board, look in your pocket and find a check of the amount. But the cause – effect bond is strong and by knowing where you are going, your subconscious mind will help you make choices and explore ideas and opportunities that will take you one step closer to you goal.

And remember, as much as we take we get to offer back to the world. It can be through added value, inventiveness or financial contribution to the society – we do offer it back. Be intentional and add how you want to serve the world to the vision board.
