Is It About You?

How much of what’s going on around you actually has something to do with you? The trees blossoming, the delivery running late, the friend or colleague who welcomes in events in their lives and plays them on repeat in the privacy and comfort of their mind’s luxury gourmet cinema. If not much has anything to do with you, could it be that shifting your attention away from the present moment, from what’s immediately in front of you, is pretty much like binge-watching life events?

Television & Netflix were invented thousands of years ago within our minds. At first we gazed at the fire. Then we activated our autopilot on some life activities. And then, we’ve grown so comfortable allowing our mind & body to dictate our needs and wants, that the reality became too much to handle. It’s when we started to think that the sun won’t shine as bright, the grass won’t grow as fast and our friends won’t laugh as hard at our jokes unless we are ‘perfect’. Unless we protect our ego’s false sense of perfection. The reality no longer has endless possibilities, only grim possibilities. Can we change it? – yes! – but for that we need presence.

Life on earth isn’t about you, but your existence is your multidimensional presence that has attached to it your own personal expansion. Stop hiding, take control and experience life. Not with fear, but with trust. Not with anger, but with patience. With the hope that the life reflected in you will soon be as still and clear as a lake at dawn.

The One Thing We Can’t Claim Back – Time

Time off in lieu is a concept that can trick us into thinking that when we invest our time into something, we can then back time. This might be doable as part of the workweek convention, but let us not be fooled that time can be claimed back. Time is the only universal currency that we trade at any given time and it’s the one area in which we are all equal.

We created a category of time unaccounted for called leisure time or free time. ‘Free’ time is as valuable as we make it. If we use it to up the quality of our lives by bringing value and growing, every minute of our life can add to a positive balance. When we give our time to consuming the hyperrealities portrayed by Netflix, television, social media, celebrity personas and so on, we trade our time and even then, it’s not free. We pay money to spend time and the effect that these activities have on us and our evolution is negative. Good night sleep versus going out drinking? One good deal over a bad deal.

All time is accounted for in the grand scheme of things, even though we might not always keep track of it. So whenever we look at people making more money than us or pursuing their dreams, we must remember that they are simply making a better time trade. They choose to create, rather than consume. And once you add value, you not only get rewarded financially, but the impact on your on growth will be positive.

Why Reading Fiction Is Not a Waste of Time

As investing in ourselves becomes mainstream, reading self-help or self-improvement literature is riding the same wave. We also make time for specialist literature to develop professionally, but we don’t binge read fiction as we’d watch some Netflix series.

All art forms have evolved, including film and including writing. Reading fiction allows you to co-create the universe and the characters with the author. We get to make our own associations between written word and imagery. We grow a different part of our brain while learning so much about people from people who’ve studied us.

Head to the library and indulge into a book that ‘reads’ appealing. Sense it. It’s the beginning of a new adventure.
