We may think that being positive won’t do much for us or that we are chasing butterflies in doing so. It’s true that it’s easier easier to live with negative self-talk than building-up the positive inner voice, and although the positive self-talk will take time to prove its efficiency, this will help us in all areas of life.

Imagine a blue canvas that you want to cover in yellow acrylic. It takes multiple layers of paint to no longer see the blue, multiple strokes of the brush and time in between for the paint to settle. But seeing the picture, we still get a feel of what it used to be. So the process of change isn’t just a physical process, but how we frame the new reality.

Take a look at your own canvas. There might be strokes and colors of all sorts, but if you take a step back, as the light helps blend all colors in our field of vision, what do you see? Is it time to start painting?

Is Giving Up Ever an Option?

Most of us have given up on something at some point in our lives. Giving up is not memorable to the outer world because no one gets to see our work or hear about our initiatives. Ideas that materialize can bring value to the world around us, but ideas can also have a negative value. They can instill a feeling of self-defeat and guilt if we give up without taking a chance.

Re-framing our reality can help us pick up an initiative where we left it, follow through with it and succeed. Reviewing an old initiative through a fresh lens is enough to add to the story of creation.

‘I started this project two years ago, took a break and now I am back on it with a clearer view or a more mature mind’ or ‘I started this project two years ago and when I revisited it I realized that it wouldn’t have worked in that format. I now have a better understanding of how to improve it’.

There is the other side of the coin though, which allows self-doubt to make the call and await for perfection. Perfection is in the process. Allowing time to pass will not attract results unless we do work on ourselves and on what we are trying to accomplish. Giving up? What does that even mean?

The Effects of Personal Growth on Others

Cultures in which status differences are seen as the doom of relationships embrace a fixed way of thinking. The belief that two people from different backgrounds, with different education and wealth cannot mix might sound archaic, but it’s still present. It might not be as obviously exposed, but remarks such as – what if he or she gets jealous, what if you have to give up your career or all your hard work? What if you need to stop growing? These are all questions that show a fixed mindset projected on others.

Self-growth is a personal experience. Those around us can decide to join us, put us down or observe us from a distance. It might be challenging pushing forward and connecting with other people that we resonate with at a different level, but it is often necessary. We shouldn’t shy away from putting our own self-growth first and other people’s feelings about how we live our life second.

What Do We Tell Ourselves in Bed at Night?

You are getting all cozed-up after a long day of work and growth, with a cup of tea in one hand and a book in the other. Or maybe you just went straight to bed, fallen flat on your tummy and let sleep take over. Either way, we are about to get our system rebooted. But the data that we input last will be picked up first in the morning. A bit of an irony when you think about an orderly lineup in processing information.

We can give ourselves the opportunity to be bright and excited next day by introducing three simple practices in our evening routine:

  1. Detach from work through a buffer activity – yoga, meditation, reading, listening to music or a nice bath
  2. Be thankful for what you’ve achieved, kindness, love and health
  3. Visualize yourself succeeding, being accomplished, making the difference you want to make into the world and add some descriptions of who you want to become – powerful, in control, creative, committed

Paying attention for ten minutes to our thoughts today and stirring them into the direction we want to go to will have a great impact on the next day and the next day and the next day. Our future is now.

Monkey Mind Essentials: Mind Your Language!

What do you see when you are looking at your reflection in the mirror? Do you see someone who will power through, step over self-enforced limitations or someone who is scared and worried? All people, regardless of their ability to push themselves forward, had points in their life of feeling insecure and defeated. What matters is what we make out of that situation.

That tingle in your hands and dryness of throat signals that something exceptional is about to happen. Something we have never experienced before. Unless there is a real threat to life, realistically our brain and body is playing up the fear of the unknown. There are different strategies to manage anxiety and the anticipation of uncertainty and I am a huge believer of positive self-talk. This on itself can be uncomfortable, but power does come from within.

Love and kindness affirmations practiced in our head or said out loud in the shower or in front of a mirror help flip the narrative of negative self-talk. Positive self-talk does not replace taking action. Positive self-talk is a device that increases our confidence and with that, our chances of moving forward.

If You’re Stressed, Worried or Annoyed, Something Has to Change

Looking around us, we see enough examples of people who settle to live in a rhythm and emotional frequency that is not sustainable, nor is it healthy. Running from one place to another, wearing themselves off and doing little to grow strong, healthy relationships. To some, this may seem like the only way further. But knowing that stress and all the negative emotions are poisonous to our bodies must be enough to encourage change.

There are different ways to experience life, and choosing kindness, generosity and good intentions makes room for growth, while envy, selfishness and negativity is detrimental to the surroundings and to the host. It can be challenging at times to see hate and answer with love, but it’s the only way in which we can protect ourselves and others as much as we can. Through fairytales we learn that dark magic costs one’s soul. Why did we ever think that letting anger or sadness in would have a different result?
